So I worked under a team lead for around 8 months, this is part of my University "Job" seeking sort of program. The team leads went through a change, and for the 8 months I got a new team lead.
I'm not sure what's with the guy, however I honestly didn't like the change, I never vocalized it or anything just went along with everything. The reasons why I didn't like the new lead is that he seemed to well... not do his job.
For example he would A) Never initiate talks with team members, you never knew how you were doing B) Never put the time or effort into figuring out who should do what on a team C) Almost never respond to workers initiations unless physically approached and even then usually took another good couple hours D) Would watch you from a distance, making you really confused whether you're doing a good job or bad job E) Have an absolute massive disconnect with teams performance F) At some points new the job worse than the workers themselves.
I did my job well, infact the previous team lead I really enjoyed because he actively sought out how to make me fit in the job well. I was given projects and challenging tasks which I actively REALLY enjoyed to do (I hate being bored). My numbers are high and performance good (There were ways of personally tracking your progress).
However, without rhyme or reason, this new team lead decides to talk to me! Yay! He tells me over a walk that I get "Distracted" too much and that "We won't be taking you next semester". I was a little shocked and challenged the criticism, I asked for examples and basically got the answer "Within a couple weeks we can sit down and look at the number together".
Numbers came in, and I was numbers wise, doing my job really well (You could view your own performance). I never got a response from him or initiation to look at my student progress.
I find this abnormal, people like saying his leadership style is "Different" which I think is corporate lingo for "He isn't good".
I guess I learned some lessons from this which I will take to the future. Any tips on how to handle these sort of situations in the future?
