My primary field is entry level IT, and I've been out of a job since April this year after being laid off. I had trouble finding both part time work and full time work for mcjobs until recently landing a gig at a hotel. This is my second week of training, and I hate it for $10hr, but it's a job. However I was just contacted by a recruiter for a short entry level tech project that will lead into a full time position January 1st 2020.
Knowing both my background check, and drug test will come up clean I can expect a start date of December 7th or earlier. I do have the choice of leaving the job now because they're basically wasting their time training an employee who likely wont be there next week. However until my new gig is set in stone, the least I could do is work my remaining shifts rather than quitting on the spot. By then I expect to have confirmation that my new job is secure, thus giving my current job a possible 1-3 days notice at the least.
I have a pretty good track record with jobs and have never left on bad terms or without proper notice. So right now I'm feeling pretty guilty about what I'm going to do, even if it means I'll be getting an opportunity to get back into the IT field making a livable wage. If I knew this was going to happen, I wouldn't have taken my current job in the first place. My question is am I approaching this correctly?
(I work in an "At Will" state)
