Let me give some background on myself first. I have been unemployed for a year now. I left my most recent position (in August 2018) as a legal secretary mainly because one of the attorneys I worked for was very hostile towards me. They verbally berated me on almost a daily basis. It got to the point where I couldn't handle it and decided to leave.
I've been actively applying for jobs on a daily basis for the past 6 months. I have probably sent out over 100+ job applications in the past month or two alone. However, I have had no luck. I average about 2 phone interviews per week. I've had several in-person interviews over the past month, but no offers. I am starting to feel hopeless. I need to find a position soon, as I am quickly running out of money. I feel that the longer I am unemployed, the more unappealing my resume will look.
I have about 4 years of professional experience as a legal secretary (or legal assistant) in multiple law firms. I also graduated from UCLA (usually ranked the #1 or #2 Public University in the world! Haha, I know this means nothing) with a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy. In order to make some money in the past year, I've been utilizing E-Commerce platforms to sell sneakers and clothing. However, this is not as stable or sustainable as a full time job. I also include this on my resume in order to show that I have been keeping myself busy in my past year of unemployment. Should I include this on my resume? I assume it looks better than having nothing listed for the past year!
I am looking for a legal secretary or legal assistant position, as this is where I have the most experience in. I've been applying to several legal assistant/secretary positions everyday, but to no avail. I feel lucky to even get a request for a phone interview. Even just a job as an administrative assistant or coordinator would be great!
Please give me any advice on how I should craft my RESUME! Constructive criticism is welcome! Be honest! If something on my resume looks terrible, please tell me! I simply want to present myself as well as possible to employers. I redacted any personal information. Any advice on better resume templates to use would be appreciated!
NOTE: I had a legal administrative assistant position prior to the dates shown on my resume. However, it was only a 3 month temporary position. I decided to take it off so that I could fit my resume onto 1 page. I have been told it is ideal to have one page as opposed to 2 pages.
