I worked for a long time in a job before starting another one. I have received two job offers that are attractive to me and have finished reference checks. However one of the company is asking for references from previous employer although I left that job more than a year and half ago. The problem is I am not in touch with anyone from that organization, I don't know where most of my ex managers are as most of them were laid off while I was there and afterwards.
I have provided references from ex and current colleagues.
Has anyone come across a similar situation where a company is insisting on getting references from direct supervisors? Is there a way around it or should I just tell them to take a hike and focus on other interviews I have lined up?
