Law Enforcement Backround Check

Hi r/jobs,

I'm seeking a law enforcement career and everything is sound but I do have one concern, social media. The two they be checking up on are Snapchat and Instagram. For Instagram I've never made any posts or comments that would potentially get me into trouble. However when it comes to direct messages to both is when I'm concerned. Does anyone know the extent to which they can look into my accounts without me just giving them my phone.
