[Question] Revealing during interview or phone screen that your current position is as a contracted employee: bad or no?

I've had a few phone screens recently where they've asked why I'm leaving my current position and I've been honest and stated that being a contractor and the impermanence related to that is wearing on me, and I'd like a more permanent, stable position. Each time I've mentioned this, the person on the phone gives this knowing "Ah," like I've just let slip something that I shouldn't. Am I screwing myself by being honest about this, or am I totally off base and this is something that will work in my favor?
