Looking for resignation advice

Looking for advice on when to hand in my letter of resignation. I need to work in my current position until 3/15 to maintain my qualification for tuition reimbursement for the current semester. I was planning on giving a 2 week notice on 3/8 and working until 3/22. However, I have a terrible boss, said boss is becoming more terrible by the day. I honestly do not have the energy to deal with her. I was thinking about putting in a 4 week notice this Friday 2/22. My question is, once I put in my notice, can my employer fire/lay me off to avoid paying the tuition? The only stipulation for tuition reimbursement is that I have to be employed until 3/15 to maintain tuition for this semester. I want to give my notice sooner so I no longer need to have closed door meetings with my terrible boss. Up until she was hired (spring 2018) I had a great 11.5-year record with my employer. My boss is now threatening verbal warnings, HR, etc. I just want to leave without damaging my ability to reference my current workplace on my resume while maintaining this semester’s tuition. My employer is a University in Ohio. I would appreciate any feedback on employment laws or anyone with resignation experience. I should also note that I am the only person in my department that can perform specific tasks and I do not have a backup.
