Has anyone had any luck cold calling for a job? My own details below

I’m a political science student living in a decently populated city (~100,000) people. Looking at traditional job sites, I haven’t found much of anything that matches my field. So, I’m wondering if it’s a good idea to simply start cold calling and asking how I could be of service to various political entities (mayors office, congressional office, etc.)

Any and all tips or ideas are appreciated!
