I recently went into an interview for a company that asked me to come for an interview and got declined. I waited a couple days and called them and asked why I got declined and they said because I didn't ask questions when they asked if I had any questions, but they told me that if any other positions ever open up that they would keep me on file and see for any other future opportunities. Right then and there I thought they would never be calling me back because I think that's something they tell people just to tell people but I could be wrong. I just felt like they say that but they never actually call you back or consider you for any other positions. Am I wrong? Has anyone ever got a call back after getting declined but them saying they'll keep you on file for any future opportunities?
After that I thought I had 0 chance. I gave the recruiter a follow up email asking if there were any specific reasons why I wasn't considered and he told me I should have asked questions and be prepared. I then replied to his email telling him the reason as to why I didn't ask questions and that I did prepare beforehand by doing some research on the company and that I hope I could still be considered for future opportunities, but that might have made my chances worse, but I also think they weren't going to call me back anyways so I might as well have tried. The recruiter hasn't replied back to that email, and there has already been several openings for the same position. Ive applied to these positions but realized I might be digging myself a deeper hole. I applied because I feel like if I don't it would make me seem uninterested in the position like how I didn't ask questions when asked if I had any questions during the interview. Should I just never have bothered after getting declined and is it also b.s. when they say that they'll keep you on file and consider you for future opportunities if they ever come up?
