Is it normal to call a workplace back sometime after the interview to inquire if you were hired or not?
For some context, I went to an interview at a lab over 2 weeks ago. The interview seemed to have gone well. They liked my answers, see me happy to have me, and even showed me around the lab. I was told there were two other people interviewing after me and I would be hearing back roughly a week later.
Not surprisingly, I didn't hear anything back so I assumed I didn't get the job because I was too incompetent for it. I spoke to a friend of mine a few days ago and told her what happened. She told me I should have called them back and asked if I got the job to prove to them that I was ambitious for it. I thought that was ridiculous and refused to call them. If they never reached out to me afterward, then it's because they clearly don't want me.
Is it considered professional to call after the interview? Did I handle this properly?
