Hi everyone! Need some advice... I work for a global company that is going through some bad times winning contract awards. They merged my branch with another and did a fairly massive layoff with the other branch. Seems like management hierarchy may still be in flux, and I wouldn’t be surprised if there are layoffs in my branch once the org chart is finalized.
The COO had a little chat with me a few weeks ago to let me know he and the CEO want to move me and my skills to the sales department (“we need the best people there”). I need to also point out I will retain all my former responsibilities for the old department in addition to doing the same tasks for sales.
Couple of questions: they consider this a lateral move, but do I have any power do salary or title negotiation? Especially given the precarious environment?
Secondly, a concern I have is while I’m not an admin, they want to move me into the front office space where the former administrative assistant sat. I will be the only woman in sales and sitting where the former only woman in sales sat—a clearly admin spot. I am worried lines will be blurred despite my new boss assuring me it’ll be known what my roles and responsibilities are.
I am enthusiastic and willing to do my best and be happy, but I feel the need to draw some hard boundaries.
If anyone cold give me advice on how to best handle this type of transition, I’d appreciate it! The move will happen in two weeks.
