I posted about this a while ago and was told to ignore it but now that I have more details so I come to you all again.
I sit right next to "Rachel" who is the type to come in 30mins to an hour late with coffee and a bagel from Starbucks and then leave an hour early. She brings her personal ipad in and uses it for whatever reason for hours throughout the day. No one else really sees this because her team (we work on different projects) works in other locations or are virtual. She also watches a ton of Korean soap operas at the office and misses a lot of IMs because she doesn't notice the notification. We work with some confidential info (SSNs and such), so we're required to take our laptops home every day for security reasons but she leaves hers open at the office.
This is only our fourth month in and since then we started to work together for our office's event committee as well. She doesn't really do much to help or provide input even though she roped me and a few other new hires to join the committee. I once asked her if she had any thoughts for an event because she was on her phone during our discussion and she just shrugged and agreed with whatever we were saying. So pretty much the rest of us have to cover for her when we propose events to the leadership and when we plan and execute events.
You get the point. Turns out she started a fashion business and does all of the content creation (social media, blogs, photography, etc) as well as general upkeep of website and such. I only know this because we follow each other's Instagrams and she promotes her business a lot. None of which is easy to do alone. So she does a lot of this at work - I only know because we sit next to each other. She literally asked me for my thoughts on a digital design she made for her busness website.
Her immediate superior quit two months ago and so she has no one to keep her truly accountable as that position is still vacant. Thus, it seems her workload is very light. She can have a bit of work one day or none at all, so she takes advantage of that and does all of this other stuff instead while the rest of us are swamped. Not sure if it's because her team doesn't give her work or because she doesn't really ask for it. Additionally, she's probably lying on her timesheets. She's even admitted to napping for hours when she works from home.
So she is affecting my work now and others around her. A few more employees are starting to realize and ask me "does she just not care?" I'm considering confronting her about all of this and mentioning how unprofessional it is and how she's affecting those around her. What are your thoughts?
