Offered a yearly salary in the offer letter, but was told I was hourly after hire and would be making less than offer letter

This is in NC, USA. My offer letter clearly stated a yearly salary, and after hire, I discovered that the company I contract with shuts down at the end of the year and these aren't considered holidays. I won't be paid for those days because now they tell me I'm an hourly employee, lowering my yearly compensation by a full paycheck. Do I have any recourse or am I just going to have to eat shit because workers rights don't exist in the US in any meaningful form?
