Need Current Supervisor and Prior Supervisor's Name for References... but I'm currently unemployed after finishing my Masters Degree?

Title is pretty much what it is. I applied for a job with the State of CA and a form requires my signature and some references. I was working on my Masters Degree the past year and graduated in August. I was working a work study position that doesn't correlate with my degree, and working a contract role with a company that I *hated* but it paid the bills. I have a good relationship with my manager despite that, but I don't know who to use as a "current" supervisor. Would a professor that I have a good rapport with work instead?
