Hey folks! I’ve had so much help from you guys over these last weeks and I’m still shaken up from the conversation I just had with my boss.
So, in a previous post, I’d mentioned that I was going to let my team know I’d work my last week remotely due to COVID concerns among other things.
Today, just before I left for the weekend, I sent out my email requesting to work remotely. I figured I’d check my inbox Monday morning and things would be all right. My boss and HR manager called my cell phone immediately, and essentially said no. I told them I apologized but my only options were to work remotely, or to end my two weeks early. My boss got really upset and said they’d pay for an Uber to take me to and from work, they’d give me a separate office to work in, but that I HAD to go in. I told her that was not an option. She said that she was sorry I felt that way after everything they’d done for me (not sure what they did but okay?!) and that she’d have to speak with the company founders. I thought that was that but then she mentioned she was not above calling the city (I’m going to work for the city government and told them this when resigning). I have anxiety disorder, so the immediate confrontation for what I thought was a simple request sent me into a panic attack.
I’m better now, albeit teary-eyed and surprised that my oh-so-sweet boss turned out to be so cutthroat… And I’m honestly a little shaken up. Should I call my new employer on Monday? Or just leave it be? I don’t start until January but I’m worried my boss might be vindictive enough to actually try to hurt my new chances at employment.
I already emailed my work’s HR department and basically said today is my new last day as my conversation with my boss made me uncomfortable to continue working there.
Anyway, not much I can do now, but any input is greatly appreciated!
