For context I work at a coffee shop. I am 24 and my Shift supervisor is around 30. Me and her have a sarcastic good-natured banter dynamic.
But today, when I thought she was just making conversation she asked me
"So what's going on? Busy with school?"
Me: No, I'm not in school
SSV: Oh, then what are you doing with your life?
Me: Just workin here
SSV: So you're just wasting your life away here? Why don't you do something useful with your life? (At some point in this roast she called me a moron)
I made kind of passive aggressive jokey comments about it later on, and told her it hurt my feelings. She told me was projecting (duh).
I was being pretty nonchalant about it, it really hurt my feelings though. After i got my AA (2 year) degree, I got rejected from UC schools so many times I gave up. I don't WANT to be at this job, I plan on leaving soon but my anxiety has been high and it makes it hard to find a new job.
I don't want to tell my manager, because honestly i've seen her make similar mean-spirited "jokes" to him and he doesn't seem to care. Also I'd rather deal with it directly with her, despite her doing this I do trust her and I don't want to mess up our friendship. I was thinking of messaging her something like:
"Hey, I know that you were joking this morning and I don't mind those kinds of jokes but that one really hurt my feelings. I still want to have banter with you but please be mindful."
