The hours are less flexible since I have to do chat support but I'm getting used to working a 9-5 again. I still do chores or whatever during the day but just make sure my speakers are up so I can hear if one comes in (average 2-3/day). My schedule was waaay more flexible as a dev but I also had to take meetings in the evenings (midnight, even!!) to coordinate with offshore teams and occasionally work weekends.

I'm only on-call during my normal working hours and every 3rd weekend but the last time anyone was called was back in May 2021 so it's infrequent. As a dev, I was on call 24/7 since I was in a lead position..

I sometimes get annoying customers but when I'm done with work, I'm fucking done with work and don't even have to think about them. When I was a dev, I lost sleep over work stress and had a hard time relaxing in my free time because I was so anxious about it.

This job is fully remote and I'm still getting paid 150k+ (plus bonus and equity)! This is for support engineer so while I am no longer doing dev work, it still requires a good amount of technical knowledge; this isn't your $20/hr call center job. And for reference, my mortgage is 1500/month, so no, I don't have to live in the bay area for that pay!
I was embarrassed about moving from dev to support but damn, I've been so much happier lately and this was the right choice for me. I had been a dev for the past decade and have done well in my career. I liked it but good lord, it could be so incredibly stressful at times. Now that I'm in my 30s, I'm all about that work/life balance. I hope I can just coast at this job until I retire!
