Been having a lot of anxiety about my future career lately. Currently still in college, graduate in Dec 2022. Studying marketing. I landed an office job back in August because I had worked with the company several times before on custom designs for stuff, so when I saw they were hiring in their home office, I jumped at it.
It’s a start up, so there’s only the CEO & 2 other people. Ended up getting hired and was making 55k/year with NO degree! I was on cloud 9 for the first 2-3 weeks of working there. Then shit hit the fan.
My boss was super egotistical, every idea I had was almost immediately shot down because he wanted to do things “his way.” My 2 coworkers were super condescending towards me after the first few weeks. I’d ask questions and they’d make me feel like an idiot. We had a hybrid model and on our WFH days, my coworkers would message me just to “make sure I was working.” Since it was a start up, I was doing two roles that would technically be two different teams on the corporate level, so as you can imagine the workload was insane.
I was given a performance review at TWO WEEKS! Fast forward at two months in, the job gave me so much anxiety and stress I was losing my damn mind. But the money was so good for someone who is still a full time student…
Long story short, few Mondays ago I came in and my boss fired me on the spot in front of the entire team. No warnings, no talking to’s, nothing. He just started unloading on me everything I was doing wrong, borderline attacking me. I was in shock. I had no idea there were any problems, no one ever said anything to me.
Is this how all jobs are? Where you can just get fired out of nowhere, with no prior warning?
