Currently looking for new jobs in the world of marketing. Most jobs that I am applying for are requesting anywhere from 3 to 7-8 years of experience.
I have worked full time for two different companies since graduating college. Both of these companies were very small business (in terms of employees, not necessarily revenue).
At the first company I worked for my title was "Director of Marketing" because no one else was doing marketing.
The current company I work for I am also the only person doing marketing, but now have one individual that works under me. My title is still "Director of Marketing".
For several reasons, I am looking for a new job. One is that I feel I am no longer learning new skills, and the growth of my current business has been tapped out.
I just started applying for new positions about two weeks ago. I have had a few initial conversations with recruiters who have been confused at why I was applying for their specific role with DIRECTOR level titles.
After further explanation...they understand and the interviews have proceeded.
Do you think employers are thinking I am overqualified for some of the roles I am applying to based on my title alone?
