Hey everyone!
So, long story short, I started a new job in the height of covid and loved it initially. However, since we’ve been back in the office, there have been a ton of indicators that while I love the work itself (primarily graphic design, some content management and web development thrown in), the work environment is NOT for me, which was a huge bummer. And for various reasons/personalities, it’s not anything that can be changed. I’ve also realized that remote work is my JAM and I’d really prefer not to be in an office again after this.
(Also, I generally am easygoing and have never had a problem holding down a job - before this the shortest stint I’ve had at a company was like 2 years, so feeling like I’m dying a little inside every day is new to me lol)
I waited until I hit my one year mark and started applying for remote jobs. It’s been about a month and probably 30-40 applications later, and I have yet to hear back from literally any company.
I’m finding leads through the typical spots (Indeed, ZipRecruiter, etc) but also cold applying to smaller startups and boutique agencies/nonprofits that I’ve found on smaller or targeted job boards, and it’s been crickets.
I’ve been in marketing for almost a decade, have a lot of experience in agency work and nonprofit marketing, and I like to think I have a decent portfolio. I have been tailoring cover letters and trying to follow up with favorite postings but it’s starting to get discouraging, and I can’t afford to quit my current job.
Has anyone been in a similar boat? I know it takes time and I’ll probably be stuck for a while longer, but figured I’d see if anyone else had a frame of reference because It’s been rough haha.
