Finally got a job and sort of away from academia and bench work. Excited and nervous about how things will fare in the future.
This is my first job after PhD. Earlier this year, I decided to bite the bullet and look for alternative career opportunities for a 31 year old man with a PhD in mechanical engineering and 7-8 papers.
I found the opening for scientific editor at a major publishing house. I applied. The job profile looked great fit. I enjoy reading research, writing reviews, thinking critically about things and being curious. Also have been volunteering as reviewer for several journals over the past couple of years.
Months later, got interview, did couple more, and voila! Got the call from recruiter the other day about getting hired for the job. It's decent salary, but the main intention here was to get the foot through the door.
I am still apprehensive about my future career trajectory and how everything will pan out. But at the moment, I am just excited to get hired.
I hope I can perform well on this job and this will be something I will enjoy doing. I am yet to tell the news to my friends and family.
Just wanted to share.
