Did I Stuff Up? Requesting A Day Off At A New Job

I got offered a new role as as an allied health professional, which I accepted two weeks ago. I'm due to start in Jan next year; however, a friend of mine recently announced that they will be having their wedding in March.

As soon as I found out, I emailed the new boss and her PA about whether I can swap my days of work or take that day off as unpaid leave. I haven't received a response (although I got a response from the PA for an unrelated matter) - and I'm wondering if I made a mistake with requesting time off already.

Did I stuff up? When should I follow up if I don't hear a response (or do I leave it)?
