TLDR: I just accepted a position as a teaching assistant at a residential behavioral health setting recently and I just got a call telling me I have to be on call one weekend a month for a job I did not apply for. What do I need to do?
On mobile, so I’m sorry for the formatting.
I currently work at a short-term behavioral health hospital where my back was injured during an altercation. I decided to look for a less physically demanding job elsewhere, when I found this TA position.
I accepted the position as a TA, and put in my 2 weeks at my current job on 9-23. I got a call today from the person I’ve been in contact with for orientation confirmation. At the end of the call she mentioned that one weekend a month I have to be available to be a tech. A tech is a similar position to what I currently have. Now, when I applied and accepted this was not the case. She even asked if I would be interesting in doing this during the hiring process and I specifically told her I wouldn’t be interested in doing the tech position at all.
I told her that I would not be wanting to do the “on call” position on the weekends because of my back and because I didn’t apply to be a tech. She told me she would contact her supervisors and let me know what they said.
I am really worried about this because I have never been in this position before. What do I need to do in this situation?
