So I work at a store where we only have a staff of 3 people. Our part timer need to go on leave of absence to take care of some family issues. That leaves the store manager and me and my boss’ boss is basically making other branches that are understaffed (with 2 people only) work every single day with no day off and it’s been going on for like 2 months now.
My store will now have 2 people only and I refuse to work every single day not only because it’s ridiculous but I live 50 miles away from this job and the only thing keeping me here is the pay. The district manager refused to staff the stores even though there’s potential candidates available. I’m willing to even out my two weeks if I’m being forced to do such thing but I’m also scared because the district manager is known for threatening employees telling them he’ll find a way to fire them or a way for employees to not be rehired but that’s another story.
So yeah can you legally be forced to do that in California? I’m not lazy I’d do it and I’ve done it before but at jobs that were at my doorstep. This job is 50 miles away one way. Commuting is already a job in itself and working everyday would be too much
