Hello, I work in IT doing application support and have been with my current company for 9 years. I have had two promotions and always had good yearly reviews. Today , in my weekly one on one with my boss, he said I’m spending to much time away from my computer and my daily status report doesn’t have enough work ( we are work from home due to covid, but did have 1-2 days work from before covid as well)and my teammates try to reach me, they can’t get a hold of me. so I asked for proof , he responds by saying perception is reality (wow). I go on to say I’ve asked for more work before and he goes on to say you didn’t get any Bc you cannot be trusted . Then he says if I don’t improve in two weeks I’ll be on the performance improvement program. This is all so weird because my status report hasn’t changed , I’m always available , albeit I might step away from computer if I have downtime At most 30-45 min before checking my pc and all my work is done in time and completed successfully. its Very common for people to operate like I do on our team as we are salary employees. My manager himself steps away to go exercise etc. and High priority issues needing my immediate attention, my teammates can easily call me. My company is a well to do company and financially well. So what gives? I’m so confused. He also goes on to say if I’m on the PIP program I cannot transfer to another team , which I’m in interview process possibly for two teams. In addition , if I don’t meet expectations in PIP program he says I’ll be asked to leave. Please advise?
