I am at point in my life where I am least ambitious.
I feel like I've retired myself from job searching.
I was just an average guy with an honors bachelors in business management. All I ever wanted as a casual office job but back when I was a new graduate, even that felt like impossible to get.
Fast forward many years later to 2021, after years of pain and suffering, I finally have a job that pays above average, has a decent title 'financial analyst' and a great flexible work environment. This is a one year contract, for now. Previously, I was working in the same role but as a 'business analyst' for two years for the same organization.
My work is still pretty casual. There is no pressure. Its really stress free most of the time, just the usual office politics. I guess I should consider myself but now I finally feel like I have been given an opportunity, that has finally put me on some kind a career path, how do I ensure I progress in my career during this upcoming one year time period?
My job duties have not changed with the title. I am basically just working to resolve outstanding payment issues in a a collections/accounts receivable role. I helped my company recover $1 million+ in lost revenue. Nothing too technical, basic analytical and problem solving skills. some basic excel use.
Yeoh its not a traditional 'financial analyst' role
I dont know, I feel unworthy in a strange way maybe because I have e struggled for so long that now that I finally am getting rewarded, have a good understanding boss, finally getting the pay I wanted, getting the right job title it feels like it came a little too late but I am still reminding myself to be thankful. What the alternative? unemployment. Just keep reminding myself that.
Perhaps my dissatisfaction is coming from the fact that I still kind of what more from life you know. I just dont want to be stuck in the same role for the rest of my life with just higher pay. I want to be part of bigger projects, have more learning opportunities, more mentoring, get taught new skills and I feel like thats what's lacking at my current organization.
I wish I could go back or how do I go back to the days of feeling highly motivated, working on my career, applying for jobs every day, networking and seeking great opportunities.
How do I make the most of my new 1 year job to ensure I continue progressing in my career? Can this job really open more doors for me? Can I try my luck at bigger companies like Deloitte? What sort of jobs can I apply for now that I have a 'financial analyst' on my resume?
I guess I am asking, what else I can do during this one year time period so I can have a better more satisfying role by the time my current contract ends?
