Interviewer wants a personal marketing plan when I come in. Problem is, I have no idea how to write one and don't have the resources to do so in 3 days.
Hi, I'm 25, no college education and I was homeschooled growing up (should paint you an idea of my formal education.) I've held 3 jobs since I was 18, and was recently laid off (thanks, Best Buy.)
I'm interviewing with a local [red colored insurance company that Jake works at] office. I had my phone interview today, and it went really well. I was able to relate my past job experience at best buy to [insurance agency] very well. I felt that I had really impressed the interviewer with my answers and general attitude despite my lack of experience in that field.
However; at the end she mentioned that when I come in for an in person interview, that she wants me to have a personal marketing plan ready for her. Her follow up email reads thus: "We will start with an introduction and background of the agency and our team. I’ll ask you some of the always fun situational “tell me about a time when” questions. We’ll review your short-term and long-term career goals. We will then review your plan to come in and grow the business. Please come prepared to share your personal marketing plan and how you will come in, contribute to the team and help grow the office."
She went over the job details with me already. It involves a lot of cold calling and going over peoples options with them. I told her that I was completely comfortable and that I am a quick learner and can pick up new skills on the fly. She didn't mention that I would personally have to think about growing the office. I would be working under her.
A quick google search gives me plenty of how tos as far as writing a plan goes; but I lack any of the resources needed. I don't have any of their goals, metrics, nothing. I have no way to analyze or calculate anything. I don't see how I'm supposed to make a plan for something that she knows I'm unfamiliar with.
This caught me completely off-guard and now I'm considering dropping my application. I don't want to, I feel like this would be a great opportunity to branch out into a career. I just can't do what she's asking me. What do I do?
