Bizarre sequencing of job interviews

I'm a graduate student currently job-hunting and recently interviewed with a global strategy firm. I was a bit thrown off by the sequencing of interviews and was wondering if anyone has gone through a similar process.

The team for which I interviewed has only four full-time staff: a firm partner, senior vice president, vice president, and analyst. I'm applying to join as the team's second analyst. The first interview as conducted by the SVP, who co-leads the team. The interview was scheduled for 30 mins but ended up being 70 mins; I took that as a positive as we had a good rapport and had a very free-flowing conversation.

The second interview was conducted jointly by the VP and analyst and was scheduled for 45 mins. I've never gone through an application process where the interview with junior staff follows one with the team leader/hiring manager. Unfortunately, I was up until 6 am the day of the interview writing an essay (was literally my busiest week of the school year) and was exhausted. I stumbled over words, rambled with my answers, and probably came across as a buffoon. The interviewers ended their questioning after 8 mins before going straight into Q&A. I had lots to ask (Q&A was about 20 mins) before the interview concluded 15 mins early.

TLDR: My 1st interview with the team leader was great, my 2nd interview with junior staff bombed.

I'm wondering if anyone else has experience with this ordering of interviews and what the logic might be for concluding with an analyst/VP interview. Presumably the team leader has greater say over hiring decisions, but I'm wondering to what extent my shitty 2nd interview will undercut me.

Thanks all for any insights!
