Job is using my vacation time rather than my sick days when I fell ill?

Hi all,

I don't know if I'm posting this in the right sub but recently I fell really ill and had to call out of work for two days. I have over 40 hours of sick time saved up, but to my dismay, my company has been using my vacation time while I was out.

Is this a standard practice or should I bring this up to hr? This is my first "real" job by the way, so I'm unfamiliar with all of this.
