Hi everyone. Looking for some insight.
I've been in IT for about 12 years starting from Level 1 service desk to current sysadmin position.
First job I was on the service desk for 2 years before being promoted in the same organization - total 5 years.
Second job I was in for 6 years.
I started a new position in October 2019 however was let go in March due to Covid before starting my current position in April 2020.
Our team went from 4 to 3 people at the end of April after one of the techs called it quits and numerous people have been interviewed with no additional hires. I also agreed to the position under the impression that I would be working through the massive backlog of projects with minimal phone calls but with the exception of the first week, this has not been the case. I understand that this is not the fault of the company, that we have now inherited a lot of the projects, with some in the works for almost 2 years. Additionally, the tech who left has poached a number of clients.
I feel conflicted for thinking about leaving however this is not what I signed up for and there is no end in sight - the company has been very cautious with new hires since the last tech left. The other two employees are visibly stressed and have been for some time so this will only be compounded with one less member on the desk.
I've kept an eye out for new positions and the job market appears to be recovering with many more jobs available and some at higher pay.
Looking forward to any suggestions. Thank you
TLDR - conflicting about leaving current position after having 2 jobs in the last year
