Is it worth it to do plant bio?

I used to think I knew exactly what I wanted to do. I just finished my freshman year in college. And I am taking a gap year because of the pandemic. I major in plant biology and won’t be in debt after graduating from college. Because I have a full scholarship. I think it all started because I failed chemistry. I took it again and passed. I have a lot of pre reqs before getting into the plant bio classes. And I think to myself do I even care about science because in highschool I always did well in history and English.

And I don’t know if it is gonna be worth it. Before the pandemic I was founding a hydroponic club. When I was in the sophomore year of highschool I worked at a local botanical garden and loved working with plants. Later on I worked at university hydroponics lab and I just loved the routine. And I also was an assistant at a elementary school designing hydroponics but the funding fell short and the guy retired. I wanted to do research I told my advisor, when I first started college. But she told me grad school would probably be then. Now thinking of it in reality. Grad school for research takes probably more than 5 years. I come from a working family, we own a trucking business. But these days I have concerns about money and my parents health. And if I am like 30 by that time, maybe I will regret my financial security. Till this day I think I should major in agroecology and have the skills to own a hydroponics farm. Or should I do plant biology so I can do environmental research? I used to think I could be like the professor I worked for in highschool he had a hydroponics lab and he had a aquaculture buisness on the side. Is it possible? To do research and have a business on side. In highschool I was on the debate team and I did a lot of environmental public speaking for my highschool. I was also on the robotics team and code. I used to think I can marry all of those together with hydroponics because I cared a lot about food security and controlled growing environments would need coding. I think I feel super lost. I want to research on how plants breathe in carbon dioxide and breathe out oxygen. And how that can apply to industry to help sequester carbon dixiode. I also want to look for new plants to make medicine. Is this possible in reality? To do research I care about?
