I stood up for myself towards a rude supervisor and got in trouble. How do you deal with these types of people?
There is a woman at work who has verbally abused her team to the point that 1/3 of our staff quit in one year because of her degrading attitude towards young workers. HR has done nothing about the reports so more power to her.
I was tired of seeing her treat people like they’re incompetent, so I was really rude back to her when she was rude to me over an email thread to give her a taste of her own medicine.
Turns out I hurt her feelings and the CEO got mad at me and asked to consider apologizing. Would I do it again? Probably not..it was unprofessional and petty for sure and I probably shouldn’t have stooped to her level. Do I regret it? No. I’m not apologizing for the sake of my colleagues who suffered under her toxic behavior or for allowing her to be disrespectful. Unfortunately we can’t avoid not working together but we make efforts to be civil for the most part.
How do you deal with people like this when you have to? I’ve ignored it for 2 years and I just snapped in the moment.
