(Question) Anyone have any experience being a 1099 Salesman?

Hello reddit,

I recently received a job interview to be a door to door salesman for Blue Raven Solar making $20 an hour plus commission and from my understanding just by doing research it's a 1099 job which I don't really understand. I'm a 20 year old college student and I have zero experience when it comes to being self employed, as well as a salesmen but they said they would train me efficiently. I have a lot of experience when it comes to customer service just by working in lots of restaurants. From my understanding I have to pay my own taxes which is okay I just want to know if it's worth it by someone else with experience. Supposedly I'm my own boss and can make my schedule with how I please, but what I'm confused about is that $20 an hour going directly into my pocket? Or is it getting taxed to the point where I barely make anything? I would like to have this as a nice side gig to go along with my other job which is in a restaurant. My main question is will it be worth the time and effort and am I even going to make any money at all?
