Hi there! Looking for some guidance in the situation I’m currently in. I think I know what I’m doing but still open to more insight.
Im a mental heath therapist currently working for a rather large company. A former colleague reached out to me asking me to a apply for a big promotion at a company I formerly worked at. I was just starting back then and the company was run MUCH differently than now. I was NOT looking for a new job, but it fell in my lap.
I interviewed and asked for a rather large pay increase, partly because therapists are ridiculously underpaid but also because I needed to have pretty big incentive to leave. I said I needed 6 weeks to start so I could finish my hours towards my license, and either that or the pay was a deal breaker.
Fast forward to this past Thursday when they reached out asking if I was still interested. They had hired a temp who isn’t working out as they’d hoped. They matched my asking salary and discussed a desire to see me grow into more leadership roles. Got super excited and decided I couldn’t say no.
Once I got my offer letter on Wednesday I went to put in my notice, and my boss freaked out trying to get me to stay. She was able to meet midway with a salary increase but still not match. There’s also potential for growth in the future but not with a recognizable timeline.
There are perks to staying here for stability (bigger company with financial security) and the benefits are better, however a lot of perks in the new job including better pay, immediate career growth, and better hours.
My gut says to go, am I wrong?
TL; DR: boss wants me to stay but can’t match pay or immediate growth. New company more risky due to being newer and smaller, but I get fast growth and pay. I want to go but feel manipulated into staying.
