My world just turned completely upside down in less than 24 hours with my current job. I am so overwhelmingly upset.
I don't know if anyone will actually read this or not because it's my first post ever, but here is the story:
My boss emailed me today that I can no longer expect to work my 8-4:30pm office job hours anymore that I have worked the past 5.5 years. That she is going to make up whatever schedule she feels is appropriate due to other departments being short staffed from lay offs and new COVID policies. She has started to schedule me to 6pm several nights a week and working half days in Saturday. She also said I would be doing a lot more work outside my normal duties because everyone is expected to pick up the extra work of the laid off employees.
I JUST picked up a part time job last week and told them I could work after 5:30pm during the week and on weekends to help bring in some more income. I have NEVER had an unpredictable office schedule like this where every day and week is different.
Most of our employees have been working remotely but are scheduled to come back this month sometime. I told her I needed to know my schedule on Monday because I had a second part time job and I know when we come back for about a week I will need to stay maybe 1-2 nights later and maybe half of 1 Saturday.
My boss just threw this bombshell on me today. I told her 2 separate times I picked up another job outside of my NORMAL work hours, and now she is telling me I have no normal work hours and I need to be flexible and do what is best for the company.
I don't know what to do and I'm completely crushed by this because I don't want to be forced into quitting my second job that I really enjoy in order to work in the constant extremely toxic office environment at whatever inconsistent hours they want me to work.
