Hello,
I applied for a position in February and the hiring process was delayed due to Covid. During that time, I was laid off from my job. Now, 5 months later, the position I applied for is calling me to come in for an interview. I am very excited because I've spent 4 months applying for jobs and haven't had a single lead. The resume they have of mine is from February and says under my employment status "2012 - present", but in fact I was laid off in April (they don't have my updated resume).
Part of me thinks that I should tell them that my resume has changed and I was laid off. It could be good because they'll maybe have a better idea how much this job means to me and it won't seem like I lied on my resume if they follow-up with my old employer(?). Part of me thinks that it might be good to not tell them because it will bring the tone of the interview down or possibly reflect poorly on me somehow.
Right now I'm leaning toward telling them -- but not sure how or when. I don't want to start the interview off like that, or end it that way either. I don't want to assume it will come up naturally, and I don't want them to think I lied on my resume.
Thoughts or feedback? Should I just email the hiring manager my updated resume and let her know where I am at?
Thanks in advance.
