I just graduated from college in May and I have been unemployed for the past two months. I recently had an interview with Aflac, though, and I'm considering becoming one of their sales reps. The reason I'm hesitant is that it's an all commission job with no base salary. I was also told that I will be spending the majority of my time "in the field," which means that I'll have to drive to all kinds of crazy places to pursue clients and leads. I also have to take a certification course. Frankly, it seems like a lot, especially considering that I could have easily gotten this job without having gone to college.
I can't find any other jobs that will hire me, though, and I'm beginning to feel like this is somehow my only option. Anyone with experience in this type of work, what's it like? Is being a travelling, all-commission insurance agent as bad as I'm making it sound? Does this sound like a great opportunity, or something that I shouldn't even be considering?
