I was laid off without being told. Anything I should do about it?

I had a full time and a part time job before all the shutdowns happened. My full time employer asked me to self quarantine because I had been exposed to someone who tested positive.

During that time, my part time employer laid me off and sent an email to everyone saying we should apply for unemployment. I looked at the eligibility and, seeing that reduced hours were part of the eligibility and going off the email I received from my employer, I applied and got approved.

I never received any update from my full time employer so I emailed them about returning to work as I am doing ok now. They claimed to have contacted me and "assumed I was no longer interested in working" because I had collected unemployment. However I never received any correspondence from them this entire time and I never sent a resignation letter.

Other than continuing the job hunt of course, is there anything else I should do about it? Is this normal practice? If it matters, I'm in NY.

Thank you in advance.
