Background: Architecture Firm. Boss [F41, 10y] Myself [F25, 3y], Co-Worker A [M24, 1y], Co-Worker B [26M, 8m] No HR department, etc.
Co-Worker B and I get along pretty well because we were friends before and we had a class together when we were in college. We have an amazing friendship and we work together very well. However, we don’t get along with Co-worker A. B and A had problems 4years ago (exes involved, etc), but B was always professional and tried to be friendly with A.
Because I have been longer than them, I have some type of authority, but I always wanted to see them as my equals. However, working with A was quite difficult for me. I had no idea what he was working on, and it was kind of annoying to ask him all the time what he was doing. I had to authorize things before denying them to clients, but he completely ignored that “rule”, regarding I confronted him several times. It is a long story that is not worth the attention.
By the way, we just came back after 2 months working from home + 2 weeks working part-time. Last Friday my boss told us (B and me) that A is about to resign because “he doesn’t feel part of the team”. (Btw; my boss barely goes to the office; she is always on-site or with clients). He said to her that we were toxic, and that he didn’t like when I confronted him. That we never integrate him to our friendship (as if was mandatory). But that he was going to think about it this weekend. And that we shouldn’t be saying anything, because it was not “official”.
B called me an hour ago. I was just like wtf you want. And he was like: “Did you hear? A just resigned.” I thought he sent us an email or something, but no. A uploaded an IG story saying that it was a toxic workspace, that money is not a priority for him. That he officially resigned today. How did we found out? B’s friend told him, and now B told me. And now I have friends asking me what is going on.
I don’t know how to handle this situation the most professional way. Apparently I know nothing, but as we are mutuals on IG, this is the “official” way I find out? I literally know nothing and, to be honest, I don’t even know if he is even going to come back tomorrow.
