TL;DR I just want someone to be there to listen to me. I lost my mum last year, lost my partner in January and now I've lost my position as an admin.
Hey there. I recently was demoted due the virus outbreak. I was working as a casual in a role performing mostly administrative tasks for a government organization. The role I am returning to is now basically cleaning and sanitizing surfaces. Originally I was going to be one of the people working from home but the company pulled the plug and returned everyone to their previous roles.
I haven't been to work in the last 3-4 weeks due to struggling with grief after a relationship breakup. On top of that, I feel the blow to my self esteem when I return to employment as a cleaner will be another hit to my depression. I am technically skilled and this work will make me feel like I am wasting my expertise on something anyone could perform.
I emailed my manager three weeks ago inquiring about transitioning into a part time role from casual so I can have reduced working hours down from 8 hours per day while I am going through the grief. He provided me a new roster, but didn't completely fulfill my requirements. I feel I can't work anymore than 4-5 hours per day.
I am considering remaining casual and just continue to choose to work the shifts if I feel I can or not. To be honest, I don't even know if I should continue to pursue a career with the organization if I am starting out again as a cleaner. Should I just dust off my resume and look for new administrative positions? With the current COVID outbreak, I'm not sure what that would look like.
