Sat my boss down to give him my resignation today. He countered and I honestly don't know what to do...

So I actually enjoy where I work, and the only reason I have a job offer is because I'm moving 1500 miles across the country for personal reasons (that being that I loathe where I live). I recently went on "vacation" to my destination city, but when I got back into the office this morning I sat my boss down and told him the truth: that I was house hunting there. He asked if I had a job lined up, I said yes and that it was a super cool opportunity. I enjoy what I do, but this is the promotion I've been looking for, and it comes with a hefty raise and amazing accommodations for my move.

My boss told me that he'd match the salary my new job offered me and let me work from home full time. Sounds great, right? I thought so initially too. I really like the company, said boss that made this counter offer is a great guy to work for and I trust that he's not trying to bait and switch me or anything like that.

I'm honestly torn. My current company has better retirement and I can work from home (which I think would be nice). The job content is same ol same ol and there are some aspects of my position that I really just don't care for if I'm being honest. They also seem fairly whimsical and I have a strange gut worry that they could potentially one day say "alright, no more working at home"... In which case I'd be screwed being 1500 miles away. The raises at this company are also borderline insulting.

The new company would open a lot of doors in the future, and the content of the job seems light-years more engaging. The group seemed great and when they took me out to lunch after my interview, seemed like a legitimate great fit for me. The retirement is awful, but I fully prepared myself to manage my own, which won't be an issue with the raise I'm getting.

Has anyone been in this position before? I've read that you should never accept a counter offer, but this is different. I'm not leaving because I am upset, I'm leaving because I thought that was the only option. I feel like I'm leaning toward my current employer, but only because it's what's familiar.
