Should I apply for the job I was being prepared for?

Hi all,

Just have a question; In my previous role, I was being developed to eventually drop into a very specific role within my company. At the time it looked like i would be waiting a while for that opportunity.

I discussed it with my supervisor and we agreed that a move to a different department would be beneficial in my pursuit of an eventual leadership role.

This was a month ago now. I have just been informed today that the role I was being prepped for will be available in a couple of months time.

My question is how long should you be in a role before you apply for another job?
