Graduated in May with a bachelors in Mechanical engineering. Started at a Fortune 100 company making $67k with a $4k sign on bonus. 100% not enjoying the job, awful manager and no budget to spend on projects so I'm not really do any engineering work at all. Just paperwork and "thinking of projects we could do in the next 3-4 years".
Interviewed with another company last week, got offered a job for $67k + $5k sign on (Didn't tell them my salary, so that must be a normal number). Only downside I've seen about the new job is that its an extra 30 miles one way to work so that sucks. Also can't move closer for about 2 years due to living situation.
In college I did a 8 month fulltime coop + 2.5 partime (25 hours a week) working in a similar industry with proven results (example - Designed robotic cell layout that saved $50k a year in scrap).
My plan was list 3 bullet points like that example, and then give them a range of what I was expecting. I was thinking countering with $74k-$76k.
Any thoughts would be appreciated!
