I've been out of the workforce for a decade or so now. I was on disability and now I'm trying to become self-sufficient again. Its very frustrating how hard it is to get back into it because I no longer have professional references and how long I've been out. I've gotten no call backs what so ever and when I inquire its a "We'll keep you in mind and we have your application on file." which I know is code for probably not. All I have is retail experience and the thing that drives me crazy is all the stores I worked at have closed down at least five years ago. I'd go into a trade but I have lung issues. I feel like my only option is to go to college at this point, which is frustrating because I need and want to support myself. I don't even know what field I'd go into if I did go back.
At the end of the day, I just wanted to see if anyone could throw some input in here and give me an option besides or in addition to college so I can get back into the workforce?
