Question (sort of?) about timing of rejection emails

Recruiters of /r/jobs and anyone else who may have insight: why are rejection emails sent when they are? Is there an option in recruiting software that allows recruiters to send messages on the weekends/late at night? Why would a recruiter send an email on a Sunday night instead of during the week? Why would they keep a candidate waiting all weekend when they could have sent the email on a Friday?

My partner is job hunting and gets rejection emails at all hours, most recently this (Sunday) evening. I am just curious, any info would be appreciated/interesting.
