I was asked about my relationship with my family during an interview, is this normal?

So, I went to a job interview that went really well, or at least I did really well during the interview, but when I got a call back and was asked to come in for a second interview, I turned them down, because during the interview I was asked if I have a good relationship with my parents, and then I was asked if I have siblings, and I said yes, and then the interviewer asked if I was close to them... My family is... interesting, to say the least, but I lied during the interview and said I was close with my family because I felt like I would be judged if I said no, which I didn't feel was right. I felt like the questions about my family life were inappropriate and my relationship with my family shouldn't be a determining factor in whether or not I get hired. Does anyone else feel like it's weird that I was asked about this?
