I work at a doctor's office, that's relatively small, as a medical assistant. Usually, there's three of us and the rest are involved with the business side of the office. I don't know if it's our management (probably is) or because our office is so small, but within the year that I've been working there, I've had about 12 coworkers either quit, leave or get fired. Needless to say, the turnover rate I feel is astronomical, and all my friends and family agree so as well. I originally had signed up to work part-time (twice a week), while I worked at my other job (three times a week) and they had known that when they offered me a job. In my opinion, I feel like the workplace isn't necessarily a good one, which could probably be why many people either quit or get fired. A lot of my coworkers who do leave say it's because how bad it is here and I didn't see it at first. After working a year, I definitely see we're they are coming from.
Recently, another one of the medical assistant's who had been working full time with my other coworker, had left the job. So now there were only two medical assistant's left, and I was only working part-time, so there was technically only one medical assistant working full time. Throughout the year, they've been asking me to work full time at this office, to which i've politely declined because of my other job. Earlier this year around March, I had left my other job to solely focus on school and applications on those days when I was not at work. With my other coworker leaving, my work asked again for me to work full time for them. I had told them I was focusing on school, and they basically pressured me to finish my school work first so I could work full time. After weeks of them asking, I finally agreed to on my own terms (aka if it was hindering my current applications then I wouldn't hesitate to quit) and I would be doing this as a favor until they find someone to work full time.
Despite the fact that this job severely underpays me (they didn't even offer a raise for working full time), especially for all the work that I do, not only at work but outside of work to ensure that the whole office runs efficiently and we're not slammed with work, and the amount of patients that yell at me for the office's fault for severely overbooking, I agreed to work full time solely so my other coworker wouldn't suffer by themself. After working full time for a few weeks now, I have basically put my applications and my school stuff to the side because I just have no time now, which is literally why I left my other job.
NGL, I have been at my breaking point for the past few days and my attitude and temper has been not the best and I have been taking it out on the administrative side of the office because I feel they're not actively looking for another medical assistant. My coworker thinks that because I do essentially everything for them, that they excuse my attitude because i'm good at getting what they want done and because i'm working full time solely as a favor. I did tell my coworker that I am more than ready to quit (they are as well) but that I am really only helping out because I would feel bad if I left them by themself. They would essentially be doing the work of 4 employees.
ANYWAYS; that was moreso a rant more than anything, but I just wanted to know. Should I leave even though we are understaffed? As much as the office kills me, I want to see it succeed and I don't want to stress my coworker out even more and I am conflicted.
