Master's Degree in Music from elite University, looking to get out of music.

I have a Master's Degree in Bassoon Performance from a school that's regarded as one of the best Universities in the world. I had planned to get my doctorate in music performance and then teach at a university. I now have an injury to my hand that makes it impossible for me to seek orchestral playing jobs and also for me to go back for my doctorate. I've worked at a music store for the past two years supplementing meager hours teaching lessons with part-time customer service to try to build up a roster of students, but there's just not enough interest in bassoon.

I've now twice been passed over for a full-time position at the music store where I work that I'm perfect for. The first time was to someone who had appreciably different qualifications from me, so I could accept it, but this time it was a guy who has less seniority, less education, and who the office openly talks about behind his back because we frequently have to pick up the slack for him. I've concluded that if I'm seen as less desirable than that guy, I must be in the wrong environment.

So at this point my Music Degrees seem like a bust, and I should move on to something else. My work experience amounts to two years of customer service, two years of substitute teaching, ten years of teaching music lessons, and three years of tutoring.

Is there a type of full-time job out there that would reward me for my education? What kind of employer would take a chance on me as a smart person who is trainable?
