Leaving a full-time job in an industry I dislike for a temp job in an industry I'm looking to pursue a career in?
I graduated college a little over a year ago with a degree in finance. I graduated with some work as a bank teller and also an internship as a data analyst. I naively assumed that this would be enough to eventually get some entry-level job as a data / financial / business analyst, but apparently not.
I'm currently an insurance agent, which I really don't like. I've been applying and interviewing a bit, but no dice. Now I'm in a position where I'm concerned that my finance degree and data analyst internship is slowly becoming irrelevant, which will make it increasingly harder to find financial analyst jobs as time progresses.
I've always avoided temp / contract roles because I always get the impression that recruiters are suspiciously indirect about what "opportunities" they have in mind for me. I mean, I applied to a specific opening. Why are you leaving vague voicemails about "several opportunities"?
Anyway, I'm about ready to bite the bullet and see if having one or two 3-6 month temp roles on my resume will be enough to help me eventually secure a full-time financial / data analyst role.
Does anyone have any tips on executing this strategy? Tips on working with recruiters? Is leaving a full-time job for a temp job a bad idea to begin with?
