Since beginning my search for a new job I've had three interviews. For each one, at the end of the interview I was given a specific time of when I would hear back and then didn't hear anything from them.
Interview 1: Said I would hear back next week. I waited two weeks and sent a follow up email. Heard nothing. Waited a week and sent another follow up; nothing. Two months later I noticed they were still posting the position to job boards and so I sent an email that I was still interested. Finally got a reply that I didn't meet what they were looking for. Why couldn't they have just said I didn't get it when I left the interview rather than pretend I was being considered and lie that they would get back to me?
Interview 2: Had an interview that went well and was being considered further; had to get FIVE references to fill out a survey on my job skills. Interviewer said I would hear back within three weeks. Didn't hear anything and sent follow up email to the hiring manager and HR; heard nothing. Eventually sent an email that I assumed I was no longer being considered but that I hope they would keep me in mind for future positions; heard nothing. Two months later got an "automated response, do not reply" email that I didn't get the job.
Interview 3: Had a phone interview last week. Was asked when I would be available this week for a longer phone interview and gave some times, and was told they would get back to me. Have heard nothing. Am giving up hope that anyone will ever follow up with me.
